October Business Spotlight: Culhane Brewing Company

October 27, 2017StephannieGeneral, Link, NewsNo comments

Culhane Brewing Company

Business: Brewing Company
Location: St. Paul, MN
Offering Date: 04/24/17
Fundraising Goal: $800,000

As the city of Saint Paul continues to shed its reputation of lacking a vibrant nightlife, it seems that Lowertown – a neighborhood that seen a fresh injection of empty nesters, artists, and young professionals into the 16-block area that once held a 36.6% vacancy rate – is leading the charge by becoming ground zero for all things hip, cool and innovative. It is no wonder that when Kathleen Culhane was scouting locations for her newest venture – Culhane Brewing Company – she decided on the Lowertown neighborhood.

“People love to hop,” Culhane explains when describing that her decision to plant her brewing company in the Lowertown area was more strategy than good fortune. With neighboring breweries like, Barrel Theory Beer Company, Great Waters Brewing and Tin Whiskers, Culhane Brewing can capture nightlife seekers and beer lovers alike.

But before moving to Lowertown, Culhane Brewing didn’t exist. In fact, Culhane had started another brewing venture, Sidhe Brewing (pronounced “she”) in St. Paul’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood, but lost its lease in early 2017. After Sidhe closed, it gave her time to assess what worked, what didn’t and where she can afford to take more risks. From her assessment emerged Culhane Brewing Company, a “hotspot” for live performances and one-of-a-kind crafted brews.

With her landlord as the co-owner, a prime location and a stronger marketing and public relations campaign and expertly crafted brews, Culhane Brewing has positioned itself to be a major player in the Minnesota beer scene.

Culhane credits her years spent as a chemist and microbiologist as the reason why her crafted brews have so much depth and flavors. Her carefully documented recipes are key to producing bold and tasty brews like her Bast Cream Ale and Greenman’s Harvest.

Culhane is skilled at making beers that appeal to beer novices as well as drinkers with discriminating palates. And becoming an investor in Culhane Brewing is one way to ensure that Minnesotans, on both sides of the river, can freely enjoy her craft beers.
